L-Acoustics K2 : High-Performance Line Array for Touring and Large-Scale Events

The L-Acoustics K2 is a high-performance, full-range line array loudspeaker designed for demanding professional sound reinforcement applications. Combining high output, extended bandwidth, adjustable directivity and a relatively lightweight enclosure, K2 has become a reference solution for touring productions, festivals, arenas, theatres and large-scale events.

Part of the renowned L-Acoustics K Series, the K2 is a 3-way active WST line source enclosure featuring dual 12-inch low-frequency drivers, four 6.5-inch mid-frequency drivers and two 3-inch high-frequency compression drivers.

With a maximum SPL of up to 147 dB and a usable bandwidth from 35 Hz to 20 kHz, the L-Acoustics K2 delivers powerful full-range performance while maintaining precise and predictable audience coverage.

Powerful Full-Range Performance

The L-Acoustics K2 has been designed to provide the output required for large professional productions while maintaining an excellent performance-to-weight ratio.

Its 3-way active architecture includes :

  • 2 × 12-inch low-frequency drivers
  • 4 × 6.5-inch mid-frequency drivers
  • 2 × 3-inch high-frequency compression drivers
  • maximum SPL up to 147 dB
  • usable bandwidth from 35 Hz to 20 kHz
  • horizontal directivity of 70°, 90° asymmetric or 110°
  • horizontal directivity of 70°, 90° asymmetric or 110°
  • variable vertical coverage depending on the array configuration
  • net weight of 56 kg
  • integrated 4-point rigging system
  • IP55 protection

This combination gives K2 the ability to deliver substantial acoustic power over long distances while remaining significantly more compact and manageable than many traditional large-format line array systems.

Panflex Adjustable Horizontal Directivity

One of the defining technologies of the L-Acoustics K2 is Panflex.

First introduced with K2, Panflex allows the horizontal directivity of the enclosure to be adjusted using integrated L-Fins. This enables system designers to tailor the coverage of the array according to the actual geometry of the audience.

Available configurations include:

  • 70° symmetric
  • 110° symmetric
  • 90° asymmetric

This flexibility can help reduce unwanted acoustic energy on reflective surfaces, improve coverage of irregular audience areas and optimise sound distribution throughout the venue.

WST and DOSC Line Source Technologies

K2 benefits from L-Acoustics Wavefront Sculpture Technology (WST), the technology at the heart of the manufacturer's line source systems.

The high-frequency section incorporates the proprietary DOSC waveguide, helping adjacent enclosures couple coherently when deployed as part of an array.

L-Vents for Controlled Low-Frequency Output

The K2's dual 12-inch low-frequency section incorporates L-Vents laminar venting technology.

L-Vents are designed to minimise turbulence in the bass-reflex ports, helping improve output capability while maintaining clean and controlled low-frequency reproduction at high SPL.

With usable bandwidth extending down to 35 Hz, K2 offers impressive full-range performance directly from the main line source.

For productions requiring even greater low-frequency impact, K2 can be combined with L-Acoustics subwoofers such as the KS28.

L-Acoustics Soundvision System Design

K2 systems can be designed and optimised using L-Acoustics Soundvision, the manufacturer's 3D electro-acoustic modelling software. Soundvision allows system designers to predict coverage, SPL distribution, array geometry and system behaviour before deployment.

Combined with Panflex and variable inter-enclosure angles, this makes it possible to design K2 arrays specifically around the architecture and audience geometry of each venue.

For touring companies, this also simplifies adaptation of the same K2 inventory between different venues and production sizes.

Amplification and System Integration

The L-Acoustics K2 is designed to operate as part of the complete L-Acoustics ecosystem.

According to L-Acoustics, K2 is quad-amplified using compatible amplified controllers including the LA4X, LA8 and LA12X. These controllers provide amplification, DSP processing, loudspeaker presets and system protection.

A complete K2 system can also incorporate :

  • KS28 or CS1 subwoofers for extended low-frequency performance;
  • KARA II, A Series or X Series products for fills and complementary coverage;
  • L-Acoustics amplified controllers;
  • Soundvision system design;
  • networked system management.

This integrated ecosystem allows system designers to manage loudspeakers, amplification, processing and prediction as a coherent professional audio solution.

K2 Within the L-Acoustics K Series

The K2 sits near the top of the L-Acoustics K Series, the manufacturer's family of long-throw variable-curvature line source systems.

The range also includes KIVA II, KARA II, K3, K2, K1 and K1-SB, together with dedicated installation models such as KARA IIi and K3i.

Within the K Series :

  • KIVA II provides an ultra-compact line source solution;
  • KARA II combines compact dimensions with high output;
  • K3 provides full-range dual 12-inch performance for medium and large productions;
  • K2 delivers substantially higher output and coverage for large-scale touring;
  • K1 is designed for the most demanding stadium and major concert applications.

This positioning makes K2 a particularly attractive platform for rental companies and venues that require large-scale performance without moving to the size and infrastructure of a full K1 system.

K2 vs L2 : Which L-Acoustics System Should You Choose?

The L-Acoustics K2 and L2 are both designed for medium to large-scale professional sound reinforcement, but they follow two different system philosophies.

The K2 is a traditional variable-curvature line source element. Each enclosure is relatively compact and lightweight, allowing system designers to build arrays with the exact number of cabinets and inter-element angles required for a venue. It delivers up to 147 dB SPL, extends down to 35 Hz and offers Panflex horizontal directivity of 70°, 90° asymmetric or 110°.

The L2, by contrast, is based on L-Acoustics' Progressive Ultra-Dense Line Source (PULS) concept. A single L2 enclosure integrates four acoustic modules into one large element, with independently controlled sections and integrated cardioid behaviour. One complete L2 element delivers up to 155 dB SPL, with a usable bandwidth from 45 Hz to 20 kHz.
