Allen & Heath ME-500

Allen & Heath ME-500 is a personal monitor mixer that lets a performer adjust their own listening balance from a compatible ME feed. It provides local control without using the main console to make every monitor adjustment.

Inputs: Up to 16 mono or stereo sources are presented with automatic key assignment.
Control: Direct channel selection with level and pan control supports a straightforward mixing workflow.
Processing: A master two-band EQ and limiter shape the personal output.
Outputs: Stereo headphone connections and a mono line output feed the local listening equipment.
Power: Use the supplied power supply or a compatible PoE connection; plan the power route with the audio distribution.
Storage: 8 user presets allow personal mix settings to be stored for later recall.

Working with the Allen & Heath ME-500

Keep personal monitoring focused on the sources the performer actually needs. A clear source feed and a short introduction to the controls can make individual balance adjustments easier during rehearsals and performances.

Prepare the sources for the performer

The automatic channel assignment makes the incoming source arrangement important. Prepare the feed at the host system so the performer receives a useful selection in a clear order. A smaller, well-chosen source set can be easier to work with than a feed that includes signals the performer never needs. Review that selection during rehearsal.

Plan the audio and power distribution

Choose the distribution method around the number and location of the listening positions. Confirm the compatible host connection and whether power comes from local supplies or the distribution equipment. Where units are daisy-chained, check the power requirements for each position instead of assuming that every downstream unit receives power through the audio link.

Hand over a repeatable setup for the performer

During rehearsal, establish a useful starting balance and explain how to store or recall it. Check the connected headphones or monitoring equipment as part of the complete signal path. Keep overall listening levels under control and make sure the performer knows how to return to the agreed starting point if the mix becomes difficult to manage.
