Working with the Allen & Heath CQ-12T

Keep the mixing position close to the operator without building the system around a large console. This compact desktop format brings local control, stage connections and recording into the same unit.

Control the mix from your preferred position

The touchscreen keeps setup and mix adjustments on the unit itself. For wireless operation, include a separate router or access point in the system design: this model does not have an integrated Wi-Fi access point. A network connection then lets the operator use CQ MixPad away from the mixer.

Build the mix around the sources

For a small performance or speech setup, use source-specific presets to establish the starting point for each channel. Detailed processing remains accessible when a voice or instrument needs closer attention. The Automatic Mic Mixer supports spoken-word applications; it should be considered alongside microphone choice and placement, not as a replacement for them.

Plan the recording workflow

The same mixer can serve a rehearsal and a recording session without changing the core input setup. Connect a computer for work in a DAW, or use the SD recorder for multitrack capture without a computer. Stereo USB recording offers another option when the goal is simply to review the overall performance.

Keep performer monitoring in the system plan

Plan the cabling before moving from a desktop recording setup to a live show. The main and auxiliary connections use different connector formats, so the required leads depend on the loudspeakers or monitoring system. CQ4You offers personal monitor control, with the external network equipment included in the wireless setup plan.
